Haldi · Sangeet · Church Wedding · Reception | Candid Wedding Photography | Alleppey, Kerala
Some grooms are nervous. Some are quiet. Some disappear between functions and have to be retrieved from wherever the men have gathered with their drinks.
Thomas was none of these things.
Rima and Thomas — both Mumbaikars, both Maharashtrian — chose to get married far from home, in Alleppey, Kerala. The backwaters, the coconut palms, the particular green of Kerala's light. Forty of Thomas's closest friends made the trip. And from the first function to the last, Thomas was the reason the room had energy.
The Haldi
The haldi was exactly what a haldi should be — turmeric-yellow, a little chaotic, completely joyful. Thomas arrived already in high spirits. He did not sit still. The friends who had travelled from Mumbai to Kerala specifically for this weekend made sure of that. Every candid photograph from the haldi has at least one person laughing. Most of them have Thomas at the centre of it.
The Sangeet
The sangeet is where things shifted.
Thomas danced — enthusiastically, fully, without a moment of self-consciousness — through most of the evening. His forty friends, who had clearly been waiting for exactly this, matched him step for step. The energy in the room was the kind that makes candid photography easy, because everywhere you pointed the camera, something real was happening.
Then, mid-evening, something quieter occurred. A song. A moment. Thomas got emotional — the kind of honest, unguarded emotion that arrives when joy becomes briefly overwhelming. He didn't fight it. The room held it with him. Those are the frames that last long after the celebration is over.
The Church Wedding
The church ceremony in Alleppey brought a different stillness to the weekend. The light through the windows, the white of Rima's dress, the particular quiet of a Christian ceremony in Kerala — unhurried, rooted, beautiful. Thomas, who had danced through the previous two days, stood at the altar and was completely present. When Rima walked in, he looked at her the way people look when they have been waiting for something their whole life and it is finally, actually happening.
The Reception
The reception was a celebration in the truest sense — Mumbai energy in a Kerala setting, with forty friends who had earned their dance floor time after traveling across the country for this weekend. Thomas closed the night the same way he had opened it — on the floor, with his people, fully alive to every moment.
It was an honour to document Rima and Thomas's wedding — through candid photographs and cinematic wedding films that capture not just what happened, but exactly how it felt.
