1. Marine Drive — the classic that never gets old
There's a reason every Mumbai photoshoot guide starts here. Marine Drive is the city's most iconic stretch — sweeping curved boulevard, the Arabian Sea on one side, the glittering city skyline on the other. It photographs differently every hour of the day, which makes it endlessly versatile.
The mood it gives you: Timeless, romantic, unmistakably Mumbai. Great for couples who want the city to feel like a character in their story.
Best light windows:
Early morning (6–7 AM): Calm crowds, soft diffused light, long reflections on the wet promenade
Blue hour / early evening: The "Queen's Necklace" lights come alive — pure magic for long-exposure frames and moody portraits

2. Gateway of India, Colaba/ CST — the icon, done right
We know what you're thinking: isn't this too obvious? Here's our take — the Gateway of India is only clichéd if it's shot badly. At the right time, with the right approach, it's one of the most majestic pre-wedding backdrops in the country.
The mood it gives you: Regal, grand, timeless. The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel across the road adds another layer of old-world luxury.
Best light window: Before 7 AM. Non-negotiable. Once the crowds arrive, the magic evaporates. Early morning gives you soft blue-gold light, near-empty steps, and frames that feel like they belong in a film.

If we had to pick one location that does the most work for a Mumbai pre-wedding shoot, it would be Bandra Fort. Stone walls with centuries of texture, crashing sea below, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link curving out in the background — it's genuinely cinematic before we've done anything.
The mood it gives you: Dramatic, romantic, a little cinematic. Works equally well for heritage looks and contemporary couples.
Best light window: Arrive by 4:30–5 PM to settle in before golden hour. The last 30 minutes of light here are extraordinary.

4.Bandstand Promenade, Bandra — relaxed, editorial and actually fun
Often combined with Bandra Fort but worth treating separately — Bandstand's promenade is where we love to shoot couples who want their pre-wedding to feel genuinely relaxed. Palm-lined, breezy, with good long sightlines and a casual Mumbai energy that's hard to replicate anywhere else.
The mood it gives you: Light, editorial, natural. Less "photoshoot", more "actually us on a good day."
Best light window: Early morning for calm light and empty paths; post-sunset blue hour for a moody, atmospheric feel.

If you're willing to skip the obvious in exchange for something more textured and real, Versova is your answer. The beach itself is beautiful — golden sand, calmer waves, a long horizon. But the real magic is the backdrop: the Versova fishing village, with its wooden boats, colourful nets and a raw, lived-in soul that gives photographs an entirely different quality.
The mood it gives you: Bohemian, earthy, authentic. For couples who want their photos to feel like a story, not a catalogue.
Best light window: Sunrise (6–7:30 AM) for soft light and low tide; early evenings for warm sand and fewer people.

The mood it gives you: Lush, organic, timeless. Completely unlike anything else in Mumbai. Think dappled light through tree canopies, moss-covered stone and the kind of quiet you forget exists in this city.

How to plan your pre-wedding shoot — the Swai way
A great shoot is 30% location and 70% preparation. Here's what we tell every couple before we get going:
Pick 2–3 locations, not 6. Racing between locations kills the mood. Two spots shot well is always better than five shots rushed.
Build your day around light, not convenience. Golden hour waits for no one. If you want beautiful frames, you work around the light.
Dress for the location's palette. Flowing, warm-toned outfits at the beach. Jewel tones against the stone walls of a fort. Neutrals and whites for forest greens. We'll share a moodboard before every shoot.

How long does a pre-wedding shoot in Mumbai typically take? Most shoots run 3–5 hours across one or two locations. We'd always rather shoot one spot deeply than rush through three.
What's the best time of year for a pre-wedding shoot in Mumbai? October through February is ideal — cooler temperatures, manageable humidity, and beautiful light. Monsoon shoots (June–September) have their own moody, dramatic magic but need flexibility and backup plans.
Do we need permits for shooting at these locations? Most outdoor, public locations (Marine Drive, Bandstand, Versova) don't need prior permission for personal shoots.
